ANTI TOBACCO SESSION AT CCI

Virtual University Sialkot campus organized an Anti-Tobacco Awareness Session in collaboration with the team of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Center on 3rd June, 2022 at Shahabpura Campus.

Dr. Maira Dastagir Nosherwani, Medical Officer Marketing at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital conducted the session and highlighted the ill effects and health risks associated with the use of tobacco. According to research, smoking increases the risk of at least fifteen different kinds of cancers. Nearly 40% of cancers in adult males seen at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital can be linked to the use of tobacco. Today, tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of cancer. She also talked about the benefits of quitting tobaccosmoking. The session ended with a question and answer session.

Large number of VU students attended the session. Engaging the youth in conduct of such sessions will help in spreading awareness regarding harmful effects of smoking and may result in decreasing tobacco use acceptability among masses.
